Often when a young person states, ' I want to be an actor', s/he is advised, encouraged and sometimes forced to get this 'unrealistic' idea out of her/his head and think about a 'real' career. If s/he says, ' I want to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer or architect', there are numerous avenues to help her/him attain her/his goal.
Instinct is a multilingual theatre group that works and performs in a range of languages. This challenges our multilingual participants and also allows them the possibility of working in a wider range of international performance communities in later life.
At Instinct we believe that the desire to have a career in performance is wholly realistic and we show our participants how this career path can lead to them becoming an actor that occassionally works, a steadily working actor that few people have seen or heard of or perhaps a movie star that is a household name. How will we do this? By training our participants to become all round perfomers, by offering masterclasses led by established actors and by giving them international performance experience.
As in much of life, success at anything is about balancing the combination of drive and hard work with the risk you are prepared to take. At Instinct we understand that each time a performer goes on stage, s/he is taking a risk. Will the work suit the audience? Will the work be understood by the audience?
To give our participants the widest possible range of performance experience and the confidence to later audition for all types of performance, Instinct produces shows from each of the following genres; classical, contemporary, musical and foreign language.
